Mayor Demings worked to protect our citizens from rising housing costs. We will carry that legacy and strive to push farther, applying ordinances where possible to ensure homes end up in the hands of actual families, and out of the hands of corporations. There is enough housing to go around. Let's work to make sure it goes to those that need it.
As our community grows (at an astonishing rate), infrastructure needs to develop to accommodate that growth. With consistent population growth of around 2% per year, and an estimate of half a million additional residents by 2050, we're going to need continuous updates to our roads and transportation services to keep up.
Orange County has been actively updating technological standards and solutions, an initiative we will continue developing upon to ensure every department has the tools it needs to operate efficiently for the benefit of our citizens, including groundbreaking technological tools utilizing AI to improve efficiency where possible.
Florida has some of the most beautiful and fragile ecosystems in the world. It is very important to me that we keep these systems safe from pollution, unnecessary development, overcrowding, and so on. We will work to ensure our parks and other protected county lands remain intact for future generations to enjoy.
Orange County is a region that knows what we need. We simply aren't looking to our state and federal leaders for answers, and with our unique situation as hosts of some of the richest tourism markets in the world, I find it hard to believe they could provide us with those answers even if we did. That's why we will always work to ensure our county operates free from federal and state oversight where the will of the higher authority simply doesn't fit with our mission or ideals. This applies double to oversight that threatens any member of our family.
